These trips suit enthusiastic photographers of any level who want to be in the right place at the right time, with a guide who understands light and composition rather than a standard sightseeing pace. They work equally well for solo photographers, couples and small private groups. You do not need professional gear — a modern phone or mirrorless camera is enough — but you should be comfortable with early starts and some walking on sand and uneven ground.
October to April offers the best desert light and comfortable temperatures for the Sahara and kasbah route. Spring (March to May) adds green valleys and wildflowers in the Atlas. Chefchaouen's blue medina is photogenic year-round but best in soft morning light before crowds. The Atlantic coast at Essaouira rewards photographers with dramatic light, fishing harbours and ramparts.
