Erg Chigaga is the largest and most remote dune field in Morocco, reached only by 4x4 across open desert. This four-day tour is for travellers who want the real, untamed Sahara.
Beyond the end of the tarmac at M’Hamid, you cross rocky hammada and sand tracks to the towering dunes of Chigaga, where a desert camp sits in splendid isolation. Nights here are among the darkest and most star-filled you will ever see.
The journey there is an adventure in itself, through kasbahs, oases and the ever-changing colours of the pre-Saharan south.
Départ de Marrakech à 07:30. Traversée du Haut Atlas par le col du Tizi n’Tichka, arrêt à Aït Ben Haddou (ksar UNESCO). Nuit à Ouarzazate.
Route de la vallée du Draa à travers palmeraies et kasbahs jusqu’à M’Hamid. Traversée 4x4 l’après-midi vers le campement d’Erg Chigaga (2–3 h). Arrivée pour le coucher de soleil.
Lever de soleil sur les dunes, trek à dos de chameau, visite d’une famille nomade. Séance photo l’après-midi. Seconde nuit au campement sous les étoiles.
Matinée aux dunes, puis 4x4 retour vers M’Hamid et route panoramique vers Zagora pour une dernière nuit en maison d’hôtes.
Retour vers le nord par l’oasis de palmiers, arrêt optionnel à la poterie de Tamegroute, traversée de l’Atlas et arrivée à Marrakech en début de soirée.

Roads are a mix of smooth national highways and short off-road desert pistes near the dunes, and we build in regular photo and comfort stops so the journey is part of the experience. Desert nights are cool to cold, especially October–March, so bring a warm layer. The camp provides thick blankets, comfortable beds in private tents and en-suite bathrooms with hot water — it is glamping, not roughing it.

October–April for comfortable desert days; spring and autumn are ideal. Warm sunny days and cold, star-filled nights; summer midday heat can exceed 40°C. Spring and autumn are the busiest and most beautiful; book early for these months. Summer is quieter inland due to heat, winter quieter on the coast.
