Essaouira’s wide, forgiving bay is one of the finest places in Morocco to stand up on a surfboard for the first time. The sandy bottom, mellow whitewater and steady side-shore wind create a safe, confidence-building playground for total newcomers.
Your lesson starts on the sand with the essentials: reading the ocean, paddling technique, the pop-up and staying safe. Then you head into the shallows where your instructor pushes you into your first rolling waves and cheers every wobbling ride.
With small groups and a high instructor ratio, nobody is left floundering. Most first-timers are riding whitewater to the beach by the end of the session, grinning from ear to ear and already asking about the next lesson.

You should be comfortable in waist-to-chest-deep water. Lessons take place in the shallows and instructors are beside you throughout.
We take confident children from about eight years old with a parent nearby; younger surfers are assessed individually.
The Atlantic is cool, but the wetsuits we provide keep you warm enough to enjoy the whole session comfortably.
Most people do within the first lesson, but there is no pressure. Instructors adapt to your pace and even lying-down rides are great fun.
Of course. Friends and family are welcome to relax on the sand and cheer you on.
Return transfers to Essaouira. Roads are well-maintained coastal highways, and we build in regular photo and comfort stops so the journey is part of the experience. Exact drive times depend on your route and pace and are confirmed with your booking.

April–November for warm, breezy coast days. Mild, breezy Atlantic climate year-round; water stays cool. Spring and autumn are the busiest and most beautiful; book early for these months. Summer is quieter inland due to heat, winter quieter on the coast.
