The High Atlas offers world-class mountain biking on remote pistes that most riders have never heard of. Here is where to start.
The High Atlas delivers the mountain biking trifecta: natural singletrack that has been used as mule paths for centuries (perfectly bike-width, technically interesting), dramatic mountain scenery with Atlas peaks visible throughout, and a culture of hospitality that means village mid-ride stops involve tea and handshakes rather than locked gates. Traffic is minimal outside main roads; the pistes belong almost entirely to local herders and visiting riders.
Natural singletrack makes up the most exciting riding — packed earth paths ranging from 0.5–1.5m wide, often with loose rock sections and tight berms through village walls. Piste doubletrack (unsurfaced roads) connects villages and provides lower-intensity but high-scenery riding. Rocky mountain paths at altitude require technical confidence and strong braking hands.
No — all our mountain biking tours include quality full-suspension or hardtail bikes appropriate to the route. If you ride your own bike regularly and prefer it, we can accommodate it, but local hire bikes are well-maintained and route-appropriate.
Our mountain biking tours are designed for intermediate to advanced riders who are comfortable on technical singletrack. Beginners are better served by our gravel or e-bike options, which cover similar scenery with less technical demand.
