Morocco Travel Insurance: What You Need & Why

Hassan Ait Baha · 7 min · Travel Guides

What to cover, why it matters for trekking and desert trips, medical evacuation and what to check before you buy.

Comprehensive travel insurance is essential for Morocco — not optional. Medical care is good in cities but evacuation from the mountains or desert can be expensive, and we require insurance on all our trekking departures.

What to cover

Trekking & adventure cover

Standard policies often exclude trekking above 3,000 m or “adventure activities.” If you are climbing Toubkal or doing multi-day treks, confirm your policy covers your maximum altitude and includes helicopter evacuation. Our winter Toubkal departures require this explicitly.

Desert cover

Ensure your policy covers remote areas and 4x4 transport. Desert camps are safe, but the nearest hospital can be hours away.

What to check before you buy

Read the activity exclusions, the medical evacuation limit (we suggest $100,000+), and whether pre-existing conditions are covered. Carry a printed copy of your policy and the 24/7 assistance number, and share it with your guide on trekking departures.
