Every way to get around Morocco — trains, buses, taxis, car hire and flights, with routes, costs and the best option for each region.
Getting around Morocco is straightforward once you know the options — and the right choice depends on where you're going. This guide covers trains, buses, taxis, car hire and flights, with routes, costs and the best option for each region.
ONCF runs a comfortable, cheap and reliable network linking Marrakech, Casablanca, Rabat, Fez, Meknes and Tangier, plus Casablanca airport. The Al Boraq high-speed train connects Tangier to Casablanca in 2 hours. Buy tickets at stations or online. First class (with reserved seats) is worth the small premium. No trains reach the desert or the southern coast.
CTM and Supratours are the reliable long-distance operators — comfortable, air-conditioned, with reserved seats and luggage holds. They cover almost every town, including the desert route to Merzouga and the coast to Essaouira and Agadir. Book ahead in peak season. Local buses exist but are slower and less comfortable.
A great option for the Atlas, desert and coast, giving total flexibility. Roads are generally good; mountain and desert roads need care (unlit at night, livestock, switchbacks). Avoid driving in medinas (impossible — park outside and walk) and at night outside cities. An international driving permit is recommended. A private tour with a driver is the stress-free alternative.
Domestic flights are limited but useful for long hops: Royal Air Maroc and Air Arabia connect Casablanca, Marrakech, Agadir, Fez, Ouarzazate, Dakhla and a few others. For most itineraries, trains, buses and private transport are better value. International flights arrive at Casablanca, Marrakech, Agadir, Fez, Tangier and Rabat.
Skip the transport planning — our tours include private transport and a driver throughout. Book your Morocco tour and let us handle the roads.
A mix: trains between major cities (Marrakech, Fez, Rabat, Casablanca, Tangier) are comfortable and cheap; CTM/Supratours buses cover the rest; and a private tour or hired car is best for the Atlas, desert and coast where public transport is limited.
Yes — ONCF runs a good network linking Marrakech, Casablanca, Rabat, Fez, Meknes, Tangier and (via Casablanca) the airport. The new Al Boraq high-speed train connects Tangier to Casablanca. Trains are comfortable, cheap and reliable. There is no train to the desert or coast south of Casablanca.

City petit taxis are cheap, metered and shared (up to 6 passengers) — insist on the meter or agree the price. Grand taxis (usually Mercedes) do inter-town routes on fixed prices and fill up before leaving. For airport and long transfers, book a private transfer or tour.
