What to pack for Morocco by season and activity — city, desert, trekking and the coast — with the essentials locals always carry.
Packing for Morocco is all about layers. Temperatures swing wildly between midday sun and desert or mountain nights, and modest dress matters in towns and religious sites. Here is the list our guides actually use.
Light cotton or linen clothing, a scarf for visiting mosques and conservative areas, and one smart-casual outfit for riad dinners. Comfortable shoes are critical — medina streets are uneven and dusty.
Days are hot, nights cold. Pack a warm fleece or down jacket for evenings, a long-sleeve shirt for sun protection, a scarf or shemagh against wind and sand, and slip-on shoes for camp. A small daypack, headlamp and wet wipes make camp life easier.
Broken-in hiking boots, moisture-wicking base layers, a warm mid-layer, a windproof/waterproof shell, hiking socks, a 30–40L daypack, trekking poles (optional), and a headlamp. For winter Toubkal (Nov–Apr) add crampons, ice axe and gaiters — or join a guided winter departure that provides them.
Swimwear, a rash vest, a warm layer for windy evenings, reef-safe sunscreen, and a dry bag. Surfboards and wetsuits are included on our surf weeks.
Drones (restricted without a permit), expensive jewellery, skimpy beachwear for inland towns, and hard-shell suitcases — a soft duffel or backpack is far easier on Moroccan transport and medina streets.
