Three weeks is the ultimate Morocco grand tour — every region, at a genuinely relaxed pace.

Three weeks is the ultimate Morocco grand tour. It is long enough to cover every region — the north, the imperial cities, the Sahara, the Atlas, the Atlantic coast and the deep south — at a genuinely relaxed pace, with rest days, a Mount Toubkal summit trek, and time to go deeper in each place rather than ticking boxes. This is the itinerary for travellers who want the complete Morocco experience and have the time to do it justice.

Days 1–2 — Tangier

Arrive in Tangier and explore the port city's medina, Kasbah and Corniche. A welcome dinner and a briefing for the three weeks ahead.

Days 3–4 — Chefchaouen

South into the Rif to Chefchaouen, the Blue City. Two days for the blue lanes at dawn, the Spanish Mosque sunset, and an Akchour waterfalls half-trip.

Days 5–7 — Fez & Volubilis

Three days based in Fez: two guided medina days (tannery, madrasas, Merenid Tombs) and a day trip to the Roman ruins of Volubilis and imperial Meknes. A cooking class or hammam fills a free afternoon.

Days 8–10 — Sahara Loop to Merzouga

A three-day Sahara loop from Fez: Cedar Forest and Barbary macaques, Errachidia and the camel trek into Erg Chebbi, sunrise and a full desert day with a 4x4 to nomad families and Khamlia's Gnawa musicians. Two nights in the desert for a deeper Sahara experience.

Days 11–12 — Dades, Todra & Aït Ben Haddou

Drive through Todra Gorge and the Dades Valley — the "Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs" — to Aït Ben Haddou, the UNESCO ksar. Two days for gorge walks, kasbah villages and the ksar at sunset.

Days 13–15 — Marrakech

Cross the Tizi n'Tichka pass to Marrakech for three days: two guided medina days (palaces, souks, Jemaa el-Fnaa) and one free day for the Majorelle Garden, a hammam or an Agafay sunset dinner.

Days 16–18 — Mount Toubkal Trek

Head south to Imlil for a three-day Mount Toubkal summit trek with a certified guide: Imlil to the refuge, an acclimatisation day, and a pre-dawn summit of North Africa's highest peak (4,167m). Return to Marrakech on day 18.

Days 19–20 — Atlantic Coast

West to Essaouira or Taghazout for two relaxed Atlantic days — ramparts, harbour seafood, beach, surf. The coast is the perfect palate cleanser after the mountains and desert.

Day 21 — Departure

Return to Marrakech or Casablanca for your departure. If you fly out of Casablanca, a stop at the Hassan II Mosque is a fitting grand finale to three weeks in Morocco.

Frequently asked questions

Is 21 days too long for Morocco?

Not at all. Three weeks lets you cover every region — the north, the imperial cities, the Sahara, the Atlas, the coast and the deep south — at a genuinely relaxed pace with rest days and deeper exploration. It is the ideal length for a complete grand tour.

How much does a 21-day Morocco grand tour cost?

A mid-range private 21-day trip runs roughly $2,600–4,200 per person including private transport, riads and hotels, guided tours, the desert camp, a Toubkal trek and many meals. Luxury raises the total; group travel lowers it. Flights are extra.

What does a 21-day Morocco itinerary include?

Tangier, Chefchaouen, Fez, the Sahara at Merzouga, the Dades and Todra gorges, Aït Ben Haddou, Marrakech, a Mount Toubkal trek, the Atlantic coast (Essaouira, Taghazout, Agadir), and the deep south (Zagora or the Anti-Atlas). A complete clockwise loop.

When is the best time for a 21-day Morocco trip?

April–May and September–October are ideal across all regions. Summer is too hot for the desert and lowland cities but fine for the coast. Winter is quiet and beautiful but cold at night in the desert and mountains, and snow blocks some trekking routes.

Can this 21-day itinerary be customised?

Yes — every itinerary we build is private and tailor-made. Add a Sahara deep-desert trek, more coast time, or luxury riads throughout. Tell us your vision via the plan-my-trip form.
