A 14-day loop pairing the northern cities with the Sahara and Marrakech, in and out of Casablanca.
This 14-day loop is the alternative grand tour for travellers flying in and out of Casablanca (or Marrakech). It pairs the northern cities — Fez and Chefchaouen — with the Sahara at Merzouga and Marrakech, with an Atlantic coast finish. It covers the same headline sights as the north-to-south version but as a loop, which suits round-trip flights.
Fly into Casablanca and take the train to Fez (or fly directly to Fez). Two days in the world's oldest living medina with a licensed guide — the Chouara Tannery, Bou Inania Madrasa, Al-Qarawiyyan and the Merenid Tombs for sunset.
Travel north to Chefchaouen for two days in the Blue City. Wander the blue lanes at dawn, hike to the Spanish Mosque for sunset, and take an optional Akchour waterfalls half-trip. An overnight lets you see the medina in the quiet morning light.
Travel back to Fez for a free day — a cooking class, a hammam, or a day trip to the Roman ruins of Volubilis and the imperial city of Meknes. Overnight in Fez before the desert leg.
Depart Fez on a three-day Sahara loop: the Cedar Forest and Barbary macaques on day 6, Errachidia and the camel trek into Erg Chebbi on day 7, sunrise and a full desert day on day 8. The night in a desert camp under the stars is the trip's centrepiece.
Drive through Todra Gorge and the Dades Valley to Aït Ben Haddou, the UNESCO ksar. Overnight nearby to enjoy the ksar at sunset without rushing.
Cross the Tizi n'Tichka pass to Marrakech for three days: two guided medina days and one Atlas day trip to Imlil or Ourika. Three days gives you city depth, a mountain contrast and rest time.
Head west to Essaouira for two Atlantic days — ramparts, harbour seafood, beach. Day 14 is your departure: train or drive to Casablanca, with an optional Hassan II Mosque stop, for your flight home.
This 14-day loop runs as a single private itinerary with all transport, riads, guides and the desert camp arranged. Submit your dates and preferences through the plan-my-trip form.
A private 14-day version runs approximately $1,800–2,800 per person (private driver-guide, riads and kasbah hotels, guided tours, desert camp, many meals). Luxury riads and a private luxury camp raise the total. International flights are not included.
This is a loop in and out of Casablanca (or Marrakech), pairing the northern cities (Fez, Chefchaouen) with the Sahara and Marrakech. The north-to-south version is a one-way Tangier-to-coast flow. Both cover the same headline sights; the difference is your flight in/out cities.
A mid-range private 14-day trip runs roughly $1,800–2,800 per person including private transport, riads and hotels, guided tours, the desert camp and many meals. Luxury raises the total. Flights are extra.
Casablanca is the most flexible hub — fly in and out of Casablanca and take the train to Fez to start, returning from Marrakech by train. Or fly open-jaw into Fez and out of Marrakech to avoid the train legs.
Casablanca → Fez (2 days) → Chefchaouen (2 days) → Fez → Sahara loop to Merzouga (3 days) → Dades/Aït Ben Haddou → Marrakech (3 days) → Essaouira (2 days) → Casablanca/departure.
