Four days Marrakech to Fez via the mountains — the Atlas, waterfalls and cedar forests, no desert.
Not every Marrakech-to-Fez journey has to go through the Sahara. This 4-day mountain route runs north through the Atlas, the Ouzoud Waterfalls and the Middle Atlas cedar forests — a green, active alternative to the desert route, ideal for trekkers, nature lovers and anyone who has already seen the dunes.
Leave Marrakech and head 90 minutes south to Imlil, the gateway to Mount Toubkal. A guided Berber village walk through walnut groves to Aroumd and the Sidi Chamharouch shrine, with a tagine lunch in a family home. Overnight in an Atlas guesthouse.
Drive north-west to the Ouzoud Waterfalls, Morocco's tallest at 110 metres, with resident Barbary macaques and an optional boat ride beneath the cascades. A riverside lunch and a walk to the base, then on to Beni Mellal for the night.
Climb into the Middle Atlas, stopping at the spa town of Moulay Yacoub and the alpine-style town of Ifrane. Walk among the Cedar Forest near Azrou, where Barbary macaques are often spotted. Overnight in the Middle Atlas.
A final morning in the cedar forests, then the drive to Fez, arriving by early afternoon. The tour ends here — a Fez medina tour or onward travel can be added.
We run this as a 4-day private tour starting in Marrakech and ending in Fez, with all transport, guesthouses, guided walks and most meals included. Tell us your dates via the plan-my-trip form.

Yes. The mountain route runs Marrakech → Imlil/Atlas → Ouzoud Waterfalls → Middle Atlas cedar forests → Fez over 4 days. It skips the Sahara in favour of mountains, waterfalls and forests — a great choice for trekkers or anyone who has already seen the desert.

Neither is better — they are different. The desert route offers the Sahara dunes and kasbahs; the mountain route offers Atlas trekking, waterfalls and cedar forests. Choose desert for the iconic Sahara, mountains for active trekking and green landscapes.
Marrakech → Imlil & Atlas foothills (night 1) → Ouzoud Waterfalls (night 2, Beni Mellal) → Middle Atlas & Cedar Forest (night 3, Ifrane/Imouzzer) → Fez (day 4).
