Marrakech is the perfect base for day trips — here are the best options within reach by a single day's travel.
The closest Atlas mountains are the Ourika Valley (35km, 45 min) and Imlil (65km, 1.5h). The Ourika route suits families and easy walkers; Imlil is better for those wanting a proper hike or Toubkal preparation walk. Both offer genuine Berber culture, home-cooked Moroccan lunches, and cooling mountain air.
The Agafay stone plateau is the closest desert to Marrakech — technically a rocky plateau rather than sand dunes but visually spectacular with Atlas panoramas. Our sunset dinner experience combines a camel ride at golden hour with a candlelit Berber dinner and live music. Return to Marrakech by 10pm.
Morocco's tallest waterfalls (110m) are a full-day trip but well worth the drive. The falls are surrounded by olive groves, resident barbary macaque monkeys, and a boat ride under the cascade. Allow 10 hours total including travel.
