Morocco's ancient piste network is gravel biking paradise. Here is where to ride and how to prepare.
Morocco's ancient mule paths and unsurfaced village tracks — built over centuries for donkeys and walkers — translate almost perfectly to gravel bikes. The surfaces are typically packed earth or small-aggregate gravel with natural drainage, offering excellent grip in dry conditions. Views over the Atlas, the Draa, and the pre-Sahara make even moderate terrain feel extraordinary.
Morocco's gravel terrain is more demanding than most European gravel courses due to altitude gain and loose surface sections. A good general fitness base (comfortable with 60–80km road rides) prepares you well for a guided day; multi-day gravel tours require regular cycling training of 200+km per week.
Our High Atlas Gravel Bike Adventure provides quality gravel bikes, a support vehicle with spares and mechanical support, a qualified ride leader, and a picnic lunch in the mountains. Groups are maximum 8 riders for a quality experience.
A versatile all-road gravel bike with 40–45mm tyres handles the majority of Moroccan tracks well. Very remote piste sections benefit from 47–50mm tyre clearance. Tubeless setup with sealant is strongly recommended.
