Morocco is one of the genuinely great family travel destinations. The combination of extraordinary variety — city, mountain, desert, coast all within a few hours of each other — with a culture of deep warmth toward children and families makes it an experience that works beautifully for every generation. Best Seasons for Families

Spring (March–May) is the best family season — warm, green, and with every activity available. Autumn (September–November) is equally good. Summer is manageable on the coast and in the mountains but very hot inland and in the desert. Winter works well in the south (Marrakech, desert) but is cold in the Atlas and Rif.

Family Tour Costs & Booking

Family tours are priced per person, with children under 12 often qualifying for a reduced rate. A 5-day family adventure combining Marrakech, Atlas Mountains, and Agafay Desert starts from $420 per adult and $280 per child under 12. A 7-day family journey including the Sahara starts from $590 per adult and $390 per child. Private family tours are available year-round — contact us to design the perfect family itinerary around your children's ages, interests, and energy levels.

Frequently asked questions

Is Morocco safe for families with young children?

Yes. Morocco has a strong culture of family and children are universally welcomed — you will find that Moroccan families are warm, generous and attentive to your children in a way that is genuinely touching. The main practical considerations are sun protection, food hygiene (stick to cooked foods and bottled water for young children), and managing active walking distances for small legs.

What age is appropriate for a camel ride in the Sahara?

Camel rides are generally suitable from age 5 upward. Younger children should be accompanied by a parent on the same camel. The rides are calm and slow-paced; the camels are calm, experienced, and led by a guide on foot. Our guides are accustomed to families and adapt the pace and duration accordingly.

What activities do children enjoy most in Morocco?

Children consistently love: camel riding in the Sahara, traditional hammam visits (they find the ritual fascinating), the live entertainment at Djemaa el-Fna (acrobats, storytellers, snake charmers), learning a few words of Arabic or Tamazight, cooking a tagine with a local family, and spotting Barbary macaques in the Middle Atlas cedar forests.

Are there any trekking options suitable for families with children?

Yes — many. The Imlil Valley, Ourika Valley, and Ait Bougmez are ideal for family half-day and full-day walks with children aged 8 and over. The terrain is clear and well-marked, distances are manageable, and cultural stops at Berber villages add interest and rest breaks. Toubkal summit is suitable for fit teenagers (14+) with the right preparation.
