Marrakech with the Koutoubia tower and palm-lined avenues, Morocco

Day 1 — Casablanca & the Hassan II Mosque

Arrive in Casablanca and visit the Hassan II Mosque, one of the largest mosques in the world, partly built over the Atlantic so worshippers can pray above the water. Non-Muslims can join a guided interior tour. Overnight in Casablanca.

Day 2 — Casablanca to Rabat

Drive or take the train north to Rabat, Morocco's laid-back capital. Visit the Kasbah of the Udayas, the Hassan Tower and Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and the Andalusian Gardens. Overnight in Rabat — a calmer, greener counterpoint to Casablanca.

Day 3 — Rabat to Marrakech

Travel south to Marrakech (train or private transfer, about 3 hours). A guided afternoon in the medina — the Koutoubia, Bahia Palace and Jemaa el-Fnaa at dusk. Overnight in a medina riad, with the option to extend your stay for desert or Atlas day trips.
