From the 110m Ouzoud cascades to hidden Rif pools, here are Morocco's best waterfalls.
Morocco's waterfalls are a refreshing counterpoint to the desert and cities, offering hiking, swimming and lush scenery. This guide covers the best waterfalls, with access, difficulty and the best time to visit.
Morocco's tallest waterfalls tumble 110 metres in cascading tiers, with resident Barbary macaques, a riverside lunch and an optional boat ride beneath the cascades. An easy day trip from Marrakech, with a short downhill walk to the base. Best in spring when the flow is strong. Go early to beat the crowds.
The Setti Fatma waterfalls are the highlight of the Ourika Valley day trip from Marrakech — a moderate uphill hike through riverside Berber villages to a series of cascades with swimming holes. Best in spring and early summer. A great combination of hiking, swimming and village culture.
Near Chefchaouen in the Rif Mountains, the Akchour waterfalls offer clear turquoise pools and a gentle riverside walk through a dramatic gorge. A perfect green contrast to Chefchaouen's blue, and a worthwhile half-day trip from the town. Best in spring and early summer.
In the Atlas foothills near Agadir, Paradise Valley offers palm-shaded natural pools carved into the rock — a genuine swimming spot with optional cliff jumping. An easy half-day hike from Taghazout or Agadir. Best in spring when the pools are full.
Spring (March–May) is the best season — strong flow and warm enough to swim. Bring sturdy shoes for the hikes, swimwear, a towel, sunscreen and water. Avoid late summer when smaller falls can dry up. Winter is beautiful but too cold for swimming.
Our Ouzoud Waterfalls Day Trip, Ourika Valley & Waterfalls Day Trip, and Paradise Valley Hike & Natural Pools cover the best falls. Tell us your base and interests via the plan-my-trip form and we will build the right waterfall day.
The Ouzoud Waterfalls (110m, near Marrakech), the Setti Fatma cascades in the Ourika Valley, the Akchour waterfalls in the Rif near Chefchaouen, and the natural pools of Paradise Valley near Agadir. Each offers hiking and swimming in a beautiful setting.
Yes, at most of them. Ouzoud has a pool at the base, Setti Fatma has swimming holes, Akchour has clear pools, and Paradise Valley is built around swimmable rock pools. Swimming is best in spring and summer when the water is flowing and the weather is warm.
Spring (March–May) is ideal — the water is flowing from winter rains and the weather is warm enough to swim. Summer is good for swimming but some falls are lower. Avoid late summer when smaller falls can dry up. Winter is beautiful but cold for swimming.
Most are easy to moderate. Ouzoud has a short downhill walk to the base. Setti Fatma involves a moderate uphill hike to the upper cascades. Akchour has a gentle riverside walk to the main falls. Paradise Valley is an easy hike. All are suitable for reasonably fit visitors and families.
Ouzoud and Setti Fatma (Ourika) are day trips from Marrakech. Akchour is reached from Chefchaouen. Paradise Valley is a day trip from Agadir or Taghazout. A private driver or tour is the easiest access. We run day trips to all of them.
