Morocco is a year-round destination, but the best time depends entirely on what you want to do and where you want to go.
Spring is the finest season for the widest range of Morocco experiences. Marrakech gardens bloom, the Atlas valleys turn green with snowmelt waterfalls, camel trekking conditions in the Sahara are ideal before the summer heat, and the Atlantic coast is warm enough for beach days. March and April bring wildflowers to the High Atlas; May is the rose harvest in the Dades Valley.
Summer divides sharply by region. The Atlantic coast (Essaouira, Taghazout, Agadir) stays cool with consistent sea breezes — these are excellent summer destinations. Marrakech city and the Sahara are hot (38–45°C) and best avoided for active touring. High-altitude trekking on Toubkal (4,167m) is actually at its best in July and August — cool nights, clear skies, and no snow.
Autumn mirrors spring quality with slightly lower rainfall risk and the added atmosphere of harvest season. October is peak month across most of Morocco: comfortable temperatures, low humidity, and clear mountain air ideal for photography. The desert season opens in October; by November, camel trek nights are pleasantly cool.
Morocco's winter is mild at low altitude (14–20°C in Marrakech) and genuinely cold at altitude (Toubkal below -10°C at the summit). The medinas are quieter than summer, Christmas–New Year is busy, and the desert in January offers crystal-clear skies and sub-freezing nights. Winter is the secret season for city breaks and coastal cycling.
July and August regularly reach 38–42°C in Marrakech. These months are best for the Atlantic coast (Essaouira, Taghazout) or high-altitude trekking, not for city tours or desert travel.
Yes — December is a pleasant month in Marrakech (16–20°C), very comfortable for medina exploration. The Sahara is cold at night (3–8°C) but beautiful and uncrowded. Toubkal has snow above 3,000m from December onwards.
