Whether you have three days or a full week, the Atlas rewards extended exploration. Here are five proven itinerary frameworks.
Day 1: Marrakech to Imlil (1.5 hours), afternoon walk to Aroumd village. Day 2: Full-day Three Valleys guided trek through Berber villages (7 hours). Day 3: Morning hike to a viewpoint overlooking the Toubkal massif, afternoon return to Marrakech. Elevation max: 2,400m. Difficulty: moderate.
Days 1–2: Imlil acclimatisation and Three Valleys trek. Day 3: Trek to the Toubkal Refuge (3,207m) with an afternoon exploration of the high cirque. Day 4: Return to Imlil via the Lac d'Ifni route or standard descent. A complete Atlas experience without the summit commitment.
Days 1–2: Imlil and acclimatisation walks. Day 3: Refuge ascent. Day 4: Summit push and return to Imlil. Day 5: Gentle valley walk and transfer to Marrakech. This is the most popular structure for trekkers who want the summit with sufficient preparation time.
Days 1–2: Imlil base, valleys and village exploration. Days 3–4: Toubkal summit via refuge with two nights at altitude. Day 5: Trek to Tacheddirt refuge via the eastern circuit. Day 6: Descent through the Ourika Valley. Day 7: Ourika market and return to Marrakech. This rarely-done circuit crosses three distinct High Atlas valleys and four different communities.
Yes — a popular 7-day itinerary starts with 3 days in the Atlas (including Toubkal), then drives south through Ouarzazate and Dades Valley to the Sahara for 2 nights, returning via Marrakech. A full week is the minimum to do both justice.
The CAF (Club Alpin Français) maintains several refuges accessible on multi-day traverses. The Toubkal Refuge, Neltner Refuge and Tacheddirt Refuge form a logical 4-day circuit that avoids returning to Imlil each night.
