Ten days lets you add the imperial city of Fes and the Blue City of Chefchaouen to the classic Marrakech–Sahara loop.
Ten days is the most popular length for a Morocco trip that goes beyond the highlights. It adds the imperial city of Fes and the Blue City of Chefchaouen to the classic Marrakech–Sahara loop, giving you city, desert, mountains and a northern mountain town in a single, well-paced circuit. This is the itinerary we recommend for travellers who want the full Morocco experience without rushing.
Arrive in Marrakech and spend two full days in the medina — palaces, gardens, souks and Jemaa el-Fnaa at night. On day 3, take a day trip to the Atlas Mountains: an Imlil village hike or the Ourika Valley waterfalls, returning to Marrakech in the evening. Three days here gives you city depth plus a mountain contrast before the desert.
Depart Marrakech on the three-day Sahara loop: Ait Ben Haddou and the Dades Valley on day 4, Todra Gorge and the camel trek into Erg Chebbi on day 5, sunrise and the long drive north to Fes on day 6. The desert night in a camp under the stars is the moment most travellers remember longest.
Two full days in Fes, the spiritual and cultural heart of Morocco. Explore the world's oldest continuously inhabited medina, the Chouara Tannery, the Bou Inania Madrasa and the Merenid Tombs for sunset views over the city. A licensed local guide is essential here — the medina is genuinely maze-like.
Travel north to Chefchaouen in the Rif Mountains for two days in the Blue City. Wander the blue-washed lanes, hike to the Spanish Mosque for sunset, and take an optional half-day trip to the Akchour waterfalls. On day 10, transfer to Tangier or Casablanca for your departure, or loop back to Marrakech if your flight departs from there.
The most efficient way to run this itinerary is with a private driver-guide for the Marrakech–Sahara–Fes leg (the scenic, logistically heavy section) and a comfortable grand taxi or private transfer for the Fes–Chefchaouen–Tangier leg. Trains connect Tangier, Rabat and Casablanca if you need to loop back to Marrakech or fly out of a different city.

A private 10-day version runs approximately $1,300–2,000 per person at a mid-range standard (private driver-guide, riads and kasbah hotels, guided medina tours, desert camp, most meals on the desert leg). Luxury riads and a private luxury desert camp raise the total; group departures lower it. International flights are not included.
Ten days is an excellent length for a first or second trip. It comfortably covers Marrakech, the Sahara, Fes and Chefchaouen at a relaxed pace with no rushed days. You can also add a coastal stop like Essaouira if you trim a day elsewhere.
A mid-range private 10-day trip runs roughly $1,300–2,000 per person including private transport, riad and kasbah accommodation, guided tours, the desert camp and most meals on the desert leg. Luxury accommodation raises the total; group travel lowers it. Flights are extra.
Marrakech (3 days including an Atlas day trip) → Sahara loop to Merzouga (3 days) → Fes (2 days) → Chefchaouen (2 days). This is a logical clockwise loop that minimises backtracking and hits the four headline experiences.
A rental car works for confident drivers and gives flexibility, but a private driver-guide is comparable in cost for a group and removes navigation, parking and city-driving stress. For the desert leg, a driver-guide is strongly recommended over self-driving.
