المغرب أرض مفترق طرق، صاغها البربر والفينيقيون والرومان والسلالات الإسلامية والحمايات. هذا التاريخ الغني يفسّر التنوع الثقافي والهوية القوية للدولة الحديثة.
البدايات: البربر (الأمازيغ) يقطنون المغرب منذ ما قبل التاريخ. والفينيقيون أسسوا مراكز ساحلية (الألف الأول ق.م)، تلاهم الرومان الذين أنشأوا ولاية موريتانيا الطنجية، عاصمتها وليلي. ثم جاء الوندال والبيزنطيون قبل الإسلام.
السلالات الإسلامية: الأدارسة (القرن الثامن) أسسوا فاس، والمرابطون والموحدين (القرون 11-13) وحّدوا المغرب والأندلس، وبنوا مراكش والكتبية. والمرينيون (القرون 13-15) جعلوا فاس مركزاً فكرياً. والسعديون والعلويون (القرن 16 إلى اليوم) رسّخوا المملكة.
الحماية: فرنسا فرضت حماية عام 1912، واحتفظت إسبانيا بالشمال والصحراء. وصار السلطان محمد الخامس رمز المقاومة. ونيل الاستقلال عام 1956، فحدّث محمد الخامس ثم الحسن الثاني البلاد. وخلت «سنوات الرصاص» تحت الحسن الثاني مكاناً للإصلاحات.
المغرب الحديث: في عهد الملك محمد السادس (منذ 1999) يتحديث البلاد — بنية تحتية، سياحة، حقوق المرأة، ميثاق أمازيغي. والصحراء الغربية قضية حساسة. يُقرأ تاريخ المغرب في مدنه العتيقة وقصباته ومتاحفه — احزم جولات تاريخية مع مشغلين محليين مقيمين في المغرب.
